My Hands
By: Tracie Beer
People often say you can tell a woman’s real age by looking at her hands.
These are the hands that held her babies that grew inside her for nine months.
The hands that touched their forehead endless amounts of times to check if they had a fever.
The hands that selflessly put aside her needs to put them first.
The hands that cooked, cleaned, bathed & put their children to bed to make them feel safe & loved every day.
The hands that drove them for 17 years to get them where they needed to be safely.
The same hands that fought a pedophile off her at such a very young age trying to rob her of her innocence.
The hands she so willingly trusted when she said the words “I do,” only to have her heart broken.
The hands that locked numerous doors behind her to get to the next chapter in her life.
The hands that allow her to vote for women’s rights and the LGBTQ+ families to have the freedom to live their truth.
The hands that closed her father’s coffin when she said goodbye to him for the very last time.
The hands she holds close to her heart when she prays for her loved ones.
So, focus on my hands, as they tell a beautiful story—one I am so very proud of.
Well done, Tracie! This piece titled “My Hands” is quite inspirational and food for thought for all.
