Wunderkeks delights with their Safe Space Crownies. #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the scoop.
A Crownie is the end result of brownie batter on top of cookie dough, and it is quite savory and scrumptious. What makes the Safe Space Crownies stand out is that they are drizzled with rainbow sprinkles on top, which is a real treat.
The end product is dense, decadent and just “simply irresistible,” to quote the Robert Palmer tune. If one puts them in a toaster or a microwave oven (for 15 seconds) and tops them with ice cream, the result is magical.
Wunderkeks founders Hans Schrei and Luis Gramajo built their cookie bakery from the belief that the foods they share help tell the story of who they are, and at the same time, they are creating Safe Spaces, which allow others to tell their stories. The rituals that they have built around their sweets are all about “unconditional love” and “acceptance.” At the same time, their pastries have a timeless and nostalgic vibe to them, which is utterly fantastic.
Several years ago, Hans and Luis had left their home country of Guatemala and they relocated to Austin, Texas, in an effort to find their own “Safe Space.” Fortunately, they found it, and ever since their outlook on life has changed.
They hope that people will share their cookie boxes along with their willingness to listen; moreover, their loud, colorful box will become a symbol of allyship and a marker of a Safe Space. Their mission is now to share the joy that they’ve found. Their hope is that others can join them in building a joyful and creative world.
The “Safe Space Crownie” garners an A rating.
