Emmy-nominated actor Mark Grossman, who plays Adam Newman on “The Young and The Restless,” has quoted a classic line from “The Outsiders.” #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the recap.
In a moving scene with his on-screen son, Connor (played by the wonderful Judah Mackey), where he is candid about his character’s OCD being “chronic,” Grossman (as Adam Newman) reminds him of a line that he and his onscreen mother, Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) saw in “The Outsiders,” and that is to “stay gold.”
In the classic movie, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, Johnny (played by Ralph Macchio) encouraged Ponyboy (played by C. Thomas Howell) to “stay gold.”
When Judah asks him what it means, Adam responded, “In life, things are always happening and things are always changing, presenting obstacles, but through it all, it is your choice to stay gold.”
Chelsea acknowledged that the perfect way to put it is for Judah to “stay true to himself,” and rightfully so. “I like that,” Judah noted. “I feel you guys have done that,” he admitted.
Speaking of gold, this scene is “acting gold” all around for both Mark Grossman and Judah Mackey, and it would make a good choice to be submitted in an Emmy reel… Subtle, deep, inspirational, and intricate. Well done all around.
