Kim Basinger had one of the best performances of the ’90s in “L.A. Confidential,” where she won the Oscar for “Best Supporting Actress.”

In an article in MSN titled “10 Oscar Winning Supporting Actresses That No-One Likes,” they listed Basinger at No. 9 on that list. That couldn’t be further from the truth. This journalist has the rebuttal.

The movie has a 99% rating on Rottentomatoes from critics, and 94% rating on Popcornmeter (Audience Score). A big factor in that was Basinger’s superb acting performance where she starred alongside a fabulous cast that included Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Danny DeVito, David Strathairn, and James Cromwell, among others.

Kim was sublime in the role of Lynn Bracken, the prostitute who bears a striking resemblance to movie star Veronica Lake. Basinger was able to build the character from within, she layered her emotions well, and she found and brought out the humanity of her character, which resonated well with fans and audiences worldwide. The screenwriters gave her great material where she was really able to sink her teeth into, and the result was stunning.

The movie was expertly directed by the late but great Curtis Hanson, who won the “Best Adapted Screenplay” Oscar for co-writing the script with Brian Helgeland.

For all of these reasons and more, Kim Basinger deserved her Oscar for “Best Supporting Actress” for “L.A. Confidential,” and she didn’t deserve to be in this unfavorable list compiled by MSN of “10 Oscar Winning Supporting Actresses That No-One Likes.” Take that, MSN!
