Actor and model Nikolay Koltsov chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about being a part of the Hulu docuseries “After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun.”
James Dean said, “Dream as if you’ll live forever, live as if you’ll die today.” This quote applies to Nikolay Koltsov, one true renaissance man.
‘After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun’
On being a part of “After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun,” Koltsov exclaimed, “It was amazing! I had a great time. I shouldn’t be here, I’m from Ukraine. I grew up in the projects and I should be fighting in the war in Ukraine right now. So, this is just an awesome opportunity, especially to be a part of such an iconic show such as ‘Baywatch.’ It is kind of a big deal; it was one of the biggest shows in the ’90s. It was a crazy and awesome experience.”
Koltsov remarked, “All my life, I would have people randomly tell me that I should be on ‘Baywatch’ because I am a beach guy, and I am always in Malibu. It was this inside joke, but deep down inside, if I was born a little bit earlier I would have loved to have auditioned for ‘Baywatch.’ So, for that to come into fruition, it was a very surreal experience.”
“I feel super humbled and grateful to be a part of this iconic show,” he said. “If they ever did a reboot, I would love to be on there in some capacity. That would be a really fun thing to do.”
Working with Matthew Felker
Koltsov praised director and showrunner Matthew Felker for being a gifted and talented individual. “Matthew had to overcome many hurdles to make this docuseries, so him being able to triumph, was very inspiring to me,” he said. “Matthew was a true professional and an incredible person, who made everybody on set feel like family. I feel like I got another brother with Matthew. It was such a pleasure to work with Matthew, and he could have been on ‘Baywatch’ himself.”
Working with David Chokachi
Koltsov thoroughly enjoyed playing the younger version of David Chokachi, who was known for portraying Cody Madison. “David Chokachi is such an incredible person,” he exclaimed. “David is a class act, a true pro, and an amazing person to work with. Now, he is a good friend. David is so ripped to this day, and it actually made me proud. I would love to look like him when I get to his age. David is just an amazing soul.”
Nicole Eggert
While he didn’t have a chance to work with Nicole Eggert (who also served as a producer of this documentary), Koltsov had great words about Eggert and her story. “What Nicole has been through recently has inspired me. I love her spirit and her courage. Nicole is a beautiful, beautiful person,” he expressed.
Journey from pastor to the entertainment world
On his journey in life, he revealed, “Initially, I actually wanted to be a pastor. I went to Bible College, but one day, a photographer came up to me after I was done speaking, and told me that I have the ‘most amazing bone structure’ that she had ever seen in her life.”
“I was working at Red Robin at the time, and when I got off shift, I went to the beach at the pier in Ventura, and we took some photos. The pictures turned out awesome and then I had a manager work with her who helped me get some acting and modeling gigs. That was a really awesome experience… especially from wanting to be a pastor to being on a ‘Baywatch’ show,” he elaborated.
Koltsov hopes to inspire more people
On his future plans, Koltsov said, “I want to help encourage people. I am working on a couple of new projects coming up. Right now, I want to inspire people and encourage them.”
“After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun” garnered a glowing review from Digital Journal.
Superpower of choice
Koltsov’s superpower of choice would be “to know every language on Earth, and people would never know.” “I would love to know what people are saying everywhere I go,” he said.
Success
On his definition of the word success, Koltsov said, “My faith in God; that is what makes me feel successful. Leaving something behind me when I am gone bigger than myself. I have a lot of big visions and dreams apart from acting and modeling. Also, your health is very important.”
Closing thoughts on ‘After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun’
“I hope ‘After Baywatch’ gives people a deeper appreciation of the timeless show ‘Baywatch.’ Also, I hope it highlights Matthew Felker again because this documentary wouldn’t have happened if Matthew didn’t persevere. Matthew had to overcome so many things to get this done, and this showed me to not give up on anything you want in life, no matter how difficult it seems. Matthew is such an inspiration to me as a director.”
