AUSTIN, TEXAS – Nov. 15, 2024. After concluding their recent performance at this year’s 2024 When We Were Young Festival (WWWY), the emo-punk rock band My Chemical Romance struck an even bigger chord with fans this week after announcing on November 12 their upcoming 2025 summer tour, Long Live The Black Parade.

Ticketmaster, I’m NOT Okay

The general presale tickets went live at 12:00pm CT (10am PT) today, immediately sending the internet’s millennials into an absolute frenzy – and for good reason.

Ticketmaster. The spawn of satanic online ticket bots that are notorious for crawling these sites, specifically Ticketmaster, and swooping up the majority of tickets to then resell them at 2-3x the original standard ticket price. No matter how prepared you were, the majority of tickets to the cross-country tour have already been sold, but at the expense of the genuine and nostalgic joy of the thousands of millennials and MCR fans that patiently did their part in hopes of scoring what will be Summer 2025’s hottest concert tickets.

True Hollywood Talk was fully prepared, logged on and in the queue as early as 11:25am (9:25am PT). To my surprise, Ticketmaster let me in approximately 10 minutes prior to general admission tickets going live, but almost all of the tickets were already scooped up and relisted as a “verified resale ticket,” with a minimum price tag of $800 USD+. Legally, Congress has attempted to mitigate the use of these online shopping bots in the stream of commerce, but has to date been unsuccessful in actual enforcement an execution. Outrageous, but that’s an entirely different story that I refuse to allow drain any more joy from the return of The Black Parade.

My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade is more than just an album; it’s a theatrical masterpiece, a concept album that weaves a dark and poignant narrative. Released in 2006, it quickly became a cultural phenomenon, resonating with fans worldwide.

What truly sets The Black Parade apart is its timeless storytelling. The album’s narrative, though rooted in personal tragedy, transcends specific time periods and cultural contexts. It speaks to universal human experiences, such as love, loss, and the search for meaning.

The concept album unfolds as a rock opera, centered around the character of The Patient, a man grappling with terminal illness, who is visited by Death in the form of a grand, macabre parade. Through a series of emotionally charged songs, we follow his journey from diagnosis to death, exploring themes of mortality, loss, and the human condition. The Patient’s journey, while tragic, is ultimately one of hope and resilience.

Throughout the album, The Patient reflects on his life, his loves, and his losses. He confronts his fears and regrets, and ultimately comes to terms with his mortality. The lyrics are filled with vivid imagery and emotional depth, painting a picture of a man grappling with the meaning of life and death. The album’s exploration of universal human experiences has allowed it to transcend generations and cultural boundaries.

A Sound of a Generation

The Black Parade is a sonic journey that blends elements of emo, punk, and progressive rock. The band’s signature sound, characterized by soaring guitars, driving rhythms, and Gerard Way’s dramatic vocals, creates a powerful and immersive listening experience. Tracks like “Welcome to the Black Parade,” “I Don’t Love You,” and “Teenagers” have become anthems for a generation, capturing the angst and alienation of youth.

A Legacy That Lives On

The impact of The Black Parade is undeniable. It has inspired countless musicians and artists, and its influence can be heard in countless bands that followed. The album’s enduring popularity is a testament to its power and relevance.

With the recent announcement of the Welcome to the Black Parade tour, a new generation of fans will have the opportunity to experience the magic of this iconic album live. As the band returns to the stage, it’s clear that The Black Parade remains a vital and influential force in music.
