Daryn Alexander is a true renaissance man. He chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about representing his home state of Florida in Mister USA 2024.
The late but great Winston Churchill once said: “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” This quote applies to Daryn Alexander.
Daryn Alexander is a kinesiologist, model, fitness trainer, and a weight loss and body composition expert. “I teach weight loss to people. I help people lose weight and keep it off. I help people build muscle and that is what I love to do,” he said.
Daily motivations
He went on to share his thoughts on motivations. “I think motivation is an excuse. I go strictly based on discipline, which is you waking up and feeling driven to do something. That’s my mindset. I have parents and an ancestry bloodline to make proud. That is what disciplines me. I go based on discipline because I have people to make proud.”
Alexander underscored the appreciation of his parents for all of their guidance and support. “My parents make me want to be the best man that I can possibly be. They have given me so much… and they have shown me so much and what it is to be a loving, kind, caring and hard-working person who has integrity and stands by what he believes in,” he explained.
Mister USA 2024
“Honestly, I can’t wait for Mister USA. It is going to be a lot of fun,” he admitted. “Win or lose, I am really looking forward to it. It will be a great experience regardless.”
Mister USA is an American beauty pageant, which is held annually, and the winner goes on to represent the United States in the Mister Universe competition. It is a celebration of culture, diversity, beauty, intelligence and empowerment. They believe in the power of young leaders to make a difference in the world. It is not solely about outer beauty; it recognizes the inner beauty and intelligence of their contestants. It will be held on August 11, 2024 in Hollywood. The winner of Mister USA will subsequently represent USA at “Mister Universe” on September 28, 2024 at The Biltmore in Los Angeles.
“It feels great to be a part of Mister USA,” he exclaimed. “The fact that this is the first Mister USA in history, and I get to be a part of it, is nothing short of an honor in itself. Back in 2022, I was Mr. International USA, where I got to represent the lovely United States there.”
“After that, I retired from pageantry and modeling, but when I was chosen to represent my home state of Florida in Mister USA, then it was a no-brainer for me. I decided to come out of retirement, and now hopefully, I can be a representative of USA once more,” he elaborated.
“The winner gets to compete in the first-ever Mister Universe, and that is phenomenal,” he acknowledged.
“People just tell me that I look like the stereotypical Mister USA. I’ve gotten comparisons to Burt Lancaster and Paul Newman,” he noted. “The light hair, the light eyes, and no tattoos. That’s my look that I try to keep.”
The digital age
On being a part of the digital age, Alexander said, “It feels good. I don’t really consider myself someone of massive importance in the social media or fitness industry. It is great to be a part of what social media has become.”
“On the flip side of that, in society today, social media has brought negativity as well,” he admitted. “It is beautiful to look at somebody and aspire to have attributes like them and perhaps want their work ethic or the materialistic things that they have. Also, if you compare yourself to where they are right now, then people in this society will be depressed or sad with what they see, and that is disappointing. I preach for people to try to become the best version of themselves. This is what I try to inspire into this toxic world of social media.”
Future plans
“I just made my business and company official. My plans are to be able to become financially free, where I can fully support my parents, so that they don’t have to worry about anything ever again. I would love to be a father one day and be a loving husband to a lucky woman out there. Also, to be able to provide for those who I love.”
For people that wish to go into fitness, he said, “To go into fitness professionally, focus on you, but aspire to be like others. Take attributes from other people and their mindsets and make them your own recipe. You become the best you. Don’t let societal standards dictate your own self-worth.”
“It is about being better than you were yesterday, and doing better tomorrow than you did today. Always strive to try to be a better version of yourself and never get complacent because that is when you stop growing and learning,” he added.
Stage of his life
On the title of the current chapter of his life, Alexander said, “The Underdog.”
Superpower of choice
If were to have any superpower, it would be “supreme intellect.” “The ability to know everything and to have unmatched perspicacity in all subjects,” he noted.
In swimming, he listed freestyle as his personal favorite stroke, and in track and field, his event of choice would be the discus throw. “I threw discus in middle school,” he recalled. “If I could do any track and field event now, it would be the discus again in a heartbeat. Also, freestyle was my stroke back when I swam.”
Success
On his definition of the word success, he said, “In my eyes, success is making the ones who love and support you proud of you. That is success, through all the blood, sweat and tears.”
Favorite mottos to live by
Regarding his favorite mottos to live by, Alexander shared, “Never give up. That is my mantra and staple. If you are always rushing to the next moment, what happens to the one that you are in? Also, yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, and that’s why it’s called the present.”
Message for his fans and supporters
“I am beyond grateful to them. Without them, I wouldn’t have the exposure that I have now, nor the platform, foundation, or connections that I have now. My fans are the reasons why I am here, and the reason I got offered to be Mister Florida. Without the fans, I am nothing.”
U.S. Army general and former Secretary of State Colin Powell once said: “A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.” Once again, Daryn Alexander embodies this wise quotation.
