Josh Vasconcelos of Iowa chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about competing for the 2025 Mister USA competition.
Vasconcelos is the epitome of adventure, determination and perspicacity. He hails from Iowa. His youth featured such outdoor activities as hunting, fishing and sports. At the age of 19, he moved to Germany to chase his dreams. He has a passion for travel, and he has been to over 20 countries. Presently, at 25 years old, he want to serve as a role model to others, and he is hoping to make a positive difference in the world.
2025 Mister USA
Josh Vasconcelos is a fitness trainer and model. “It feels pretty good,” he said about competing for Mister USA. “It is definitely interesting. The opportunity arose, and I took it.”
Mister USA is an American beauty pageant, which is held annually, and the winner goes on to represent the United States in the Mister Universe competition. It is a celebration of culture, diversity, beauty, intelligence and empowerment. They believe in the power of young leaders to make a difference in the world. It is not solely about outer beauty; it recognizes the inner beauty and intelligence of their contestants.
On repping Iowa, he said, “It feels really cool. I love the state of Iowa; I was born there. A lot of people don’t know about it. Being in the Midwest, it’s a bit secluded, and it’s a totally different lifestyle. I love the Iowa lifestyle myself. Even though I don’t call it home today, I know that one day I definitely will again.”
“To be able to win and represent the entire country would be absolutely amazing,” he exclaimed. “That would be an opportunity that is unforeseen, and I would be really thankful. I think that would be really cool.”
“I really look forward to this summer and representing Iowa and just getting there in general,” he added.
Daily motivations
Each day, he is motivated by the goals that he sets for himself. “I hope Mister USA gives me the opportunity to connect with more people,” he said. “Being able to represent the state of Iowa is just awesome in general. I am really looking forward to it.”
Advocacy for Mister USA
Regarding his advocacy for Mister USA, he remarked, “I want to show everybody that specifically the way that they grow up might not be right or wrong. There are other people living on the other side of the world in a completely different way with a completely different lifestyle, and they are getting themselves through life, so don’t stop yourself to get through life.”
Future plans
On his future plans, he shared, “I’m very open. I don’t know where I will be five years from now, but I want to be running a successful business and have a successful, loving family. Those would be my main goals. Also, I love traveling.”
Superpower of choice
If he were to have any superpower, it would be to “predict the future” and he would want to “foresee his own death.”
“Those are the superpowers I would want to have,” he admitted. “Being able to foresee my death would help me understand that my time on this earth has come to an end, and I’ve done everything that I have been able to do.”
Stage of his life
On the title of the current chapter of his life, he said with a sweet laugh, “I am not sure.” “That is to be determined,” he said.
Defining moments
When asked if there were any moments in his life or career that have helped define him, he said, “For sure.”
“When I was in high school, 10 years ago, there were a few life figures around me that molded me into who I am today, and they sent me along the path of processing, thinking before actually making the decisions, and they help me end up where I am today,” he explained.
“My family members definitely motivate me, and they keep me moving forward,” he added.
Success
Regarding his definition of the word success, Vasconcelos concluded, “The definition of the word success, to me, personally, has changed for me over the last few years. Now, success means being at peace with where I am in my life. Ultimately, that is what success looks like to me.”
