In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, this journalist is spotlighting Mr. Juan Carlos (JC) Ortega, the executive chef of Blu on the Hudson.

Blu on the Hudson  brings a New York City-style dining experience to the waterfront in Weehawken, New Jersey, featuring spiraling views of the Hudson River and Manhattan skyline. Since Blu’s opening, it has thrived in attracting local, destination diners, celebrities, and top-sports figures due to its consistency in delivering high-quality and memorable dining.

Chef JC was born and raised in Ecuador; he moved to the U.S. in 1995 at the age of 17. His first job was working at an Italian restaurant where he began learning about the cuisine and the fundamentals. He rose to Executive Chef at BR Guest Hospitality’s Blue Fin, Blue Water Grill, and Catch Steak.

Chef JC was appointed by the Blu Hospitality Group to lead the kitchen of the 30,000 square foot restaurant, Blu on the Hudson.

He has brought his years of experience working with seafood and steak to create a menu composed of simple, clean ingredients that elicit complex flavors by drawing on a variety of influences from the Mediterranean and beyond.

Chef JC continuously travels to South America, Europe, Asia, among other places to become immersed in new culinary trends. His cuisine is elevated yet remains approachable, offering selections for every diner to enjoy.

Blu on the Hudson earned a rave review from Digital Journal, and rightfully so.
