David Chokachi (“Baywatch” and “After Baywatch” docuseries oh Hulu) had teamed up with Best Friends Animal Society to help during the Los Angeles wildfires. #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the scoop.
Best Friends’ emergency response team is on the ground in Los Angeles, supporting local animal welfare organizations while ensuring the safety of the pets and staff in their West L.A. Pet Adoption Center.
Best Friends Animal Society is working around-the-clock to respond to pleas for help from shelters in the affected areas, even as we work to ensure the safety of our staff and the pets in our care at the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center in West L.A. We’re a “whatever it takes” organization and we will do whatever it takes to help those in the city. Whether it’s saving lives, supporting one another, or making the impossible possible, we’re here for the long run to support the city we love.
Chokachi has been helping with transport, and loading animals on to the plane , and possibly fostering as the shelters are completely overwhelmed.
“Please share this post if you feel compelled, as @bestfriendsanimalsociety is doing everything in their power to help with the crisis.
Nearly 100 shelter pets displaced by the Los Angeles wildfires are flying from Burbank to Kanab, Utah today in partnership with our friends at Wings of Rescue. Some dogs and cats will be placed at the Sanctuary in Kanab, while the others will head north to @bfas_slc,” he posted on social media.
“Best Friends Animal Society is doing it all, and in the process restoring my faith that there are good people in the world, people who run towards the problem, and find solutions! If there’s anything we can take away from this unimaginable disaster, maybe we can grow/evolve/learn to be kind to one another, to love one another! Humans , animals , our planet, it’s all we have, so why not cherish it, respect it, and take care of it to the best of our ability,” he elaborated.
“We teamed up with @bestfriendsanimalsociety to send 100 animals to the Best Friends Sanctuary in Utah! 🐾 From there, they’ll head to Salt Lake City or our rescue partners, finally getting the chance to find loving adoptive homes in areas with fewer shelter animals.
“Many of these incredible dogs had been waiting for months in our local shelters, overlooked but full of love to give. Now, they have a fresh start—and their journeys make room for animals impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires. As families displaced by the fires navigate their next steps, we anticipate an influx of animals needing shelter. Thanks to your support, we’re ready to help. Foster, adopt, or donate today—your kindness makes all this possible.”
Chokachi remarked, “Yesterday, Wings of Rescue flew pets from wildfire-ravaged areas and overcrowded Los Angeles shelters to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. These 87 pets, who had been waiting for their first chance at safety, are now on their way to love and care—freeing critical kennel space for evacuees’ pets impacted by the wildfires.”
“Our work is far from over,” Chokachi admitted. “We’re flying pets around the country every single day this week to ensure they find safety and love. This Sunday, we’ll be conducting a double flight, transporting even more shelter pets in desperate need of a first chance at life.”
“Your generosity makes this possible. Every flight we make saves lives—of the pets onboard and those who will fill the spaces left behind. Together, we’re bringing hope to pets who need it most,” he acknowledged.
