Calvin Mickles is Mr. Washington in the 2024 Mister USA competition. He chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about his upbringing and future endeavors.
American actress Joy Page (“Casablanca”) once said: “Dream and give yourself permission to envision a You that you choose to be.” This quote applies to Calvin Mickles.
2024 Mister USA
On being a part of Mister USA, he exclaimed, “It feels surreal. This is something that I never thought I would be doing in a million years. The opportunity is unbelievable. I am still trying to take it all in. My family and friends are all excited about it too.”
Mister USA is an American beauty pageant, which is held annually, and the winner goes on to represent the United States in the Mister Universe competition. It is a celebration of culture, diversity, beauty, intelligence and empowerment. They believe in the power of young leaders to make a difference in the world. It is not solely about outer beauty; it recognizes the inner beauty and intelligence of their contestants. It will be held on August 11, 2024 in Hollywood.
The winner of Mister USA will subsequently represent USA at “Mister Universe” on September 28, 2024 at The Biltmore in Los Angeles.
“Once again, I feel very honored that I get to represent Washington State,” he admitted.
Mickles, 27, has looks reminiscent of Zac Efron meets Timothée Chalamet (“Wonka”).
The causes that are important to Mickles
“With Mister USA, my goal is to try to spread positivity and love,” he acknowledged. “That’s what I try to do to everybody in my life… I want to have a positive impact on people and leave them with a smile on their faces… That’s the aura that I feel that I bring. I want to spread love and positivity to anybody I meet in this world.”
“I also want to spread awareness on social anxiety because I was in such a deep hole at one point in my life,” he said. “I always think of that version of my life and how there are people that are going through it right now… No matter how low you get, you can get really high. We all have unlimited potential.”
Future plans
Regarding his future plans, he shared, “I don’t really know. I am taking life one day at a time. That’s how I have been my life over the past three years. I’ve always tried to grow and evolve in any way that I can, and I am trying to be the best version of myself each day.”
When asked what drives him each day, he revealed, “I am motivated by myself, my friends and my family. I just want to try to be the best version of myself every day, and then I just try to get a little bit better each day no matter what I am doing.”
Career-defining moments
When asked about his career-defining moments, he responded, “In October of 2020, that was when I committed to working out heavily. I couldn’t hold down a job or a relationship… I fully committed to myself and that has stuck with me forever… that’s where my current mindset first started happening.”
Superpower of choice
If he were to have any superpower, it would be “Superspeed” like “The Flash.” Travel takes so much of my day but superspeed would get me places instantly,” he said.
Stage of his life
On the title of the current chapter of his life, he said, “Evolving.”
Success
Regarding his definition of the word success, he remarked, “When my family and I are happy, that’s success. Happiness is the No. 1 thing.”
Mickles concluded our interview by expressing his appreciation to his fans and followers. “People are so nice to me on social media, where there is so much love, support, and kindness, and that makes me so happy. I am so appreciative of everyone, and I am just so grateful,” he concluded.
