Joanne Trattoria hosted its first-ever “Joanne’s Ear presents: Mayhem” Poetry evening, for a great turnout. #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the recap.
This event was produced by SamBryWil and Joanna Trattoria. SamBryWil went on to extend a special thanks to the venue (Joanna Trattoria), Joe Germanotta (owner and Lady Gaga’s father), Gabby Gabriel (Second Wind Media) and CJ Chowbangprom.
Gabby Gabriel, Joe Germanotta’s business partner of Second Wind Media, made the opening remarks and spoke about the mission of the venue, which is to become the premiere entertainment hub that will help emerging artists achieve the spotlight they deserve.
It featured such performers as CODA artist Thomas DellaMonica, Devour, Emily Larmy (who read her impressive prose), this journalist Markos Papadatos (who read two short rhyming poems), organizer SamBryWil, musician TrevHandsome (who sang two songs), and Deaf performer Youmee.
Brandon Kazen-Maddox, the co-founder of Up Until Now Collective and American Sign Language artist, was on-site to provide the ASL translation for some of the performers. Kazen-Maddox is a GODA (Grandchild of Deaf Adult).
This event was a firm reminder that so many things classify as poetry (as it comes from an overflow of feelings); this includes song lyrics, prose, rhyme, and songs. Each performer was unique, and was able to bring something distinct to the table. Hopefully, this is a harbinger that there will be more Poetry Nights to come at Joanne Trattoria because judging from the packed patio, the first event was a success.
