Dillon Greenberg and Kaeli Earle stun on their “Merry Christmas, Lucy” EP. #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the scoop.
It opens with the midtempo and sassy “Merry Christmas, Lucy,” where she pays tribute to her cat Lucy (who was able to beat cancer). It is followed by a soothing version of “Up on the Housetop,” where they display their velvet harmonies.
It is followed by a controlled and harking rendition of “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and they speed up the tempo in their enchanting “12 Days of Christmas,” which is hilarious and clever (as they paraphrase the lyrics to make it modern and relatable). It closes on a fitting note with the atmospheric “Silent Night,” as they leave their listeners wanting to hear more.
In summation, “Merry Christmas, Lucy” is a well-crafted, engaging and fun holiday EP. There is something in it for everyone: it is witty and nostalgic at the same time due to its retro jazz vibe. Their jazz harmonies are quite glorious. It deserves more than just a passing glance, and it garners two thumbs up. Well done.
