On Monday, October 14, Cormac Murphy, the inaugural Mister USA winner, was featured on the Fox 5 morning show “Good Day New York.” #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the recap.
Murphy, who repped the state of New York, sat down and spoke with Emmy award-winning anchor Rosanna Scotto, where he opened up about his heritage, connection to New York, and his two-year sobriety. “My grandparents are from Washington Heights and my mother is from New Jersey,” he revealed. “I was born and raised in Ireland.”
Murphy on achieving and maintaining sobriety
For Murphy, he attributes his Mister USA win to his honesty, authenticity, and being candid about his struggles. “I wouldn’t be here today and I wouldn’t have won a pageant if I wasn’t sober,” he admitted.
Murphy noted that he used Mister USA as a platform to share his story, and hopefully inspire others that are struggling as well.

Mister USA is an American beauty pageant, which is held annually, and the winner goes on to represent the United States in the Mister Universe competition. It is a celebration of culture, diversity, beauty, intelligence and empowerment.
Mister USA believes in the power of young leaders to make a difference in the world. It is not solely about outer beauty; it recognizes the inner beauty and intelligence of their contestants.
The Mister USA finals were held on August 31st at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, California.
Murphy is on to rep the USA in the Mister Universe pageant
Now, that he is a Mister USA winner, Murphy will be competing in the Mister Universe pageant, where the finals will be held on December 22nd in Los Angeles, California. “It will be on a bigger stage, and it will have contestants from all over the world. I am just excited to share my story,” he said.
An alum of “Love Island,” Murphy shared that he is dating a fellow “Love Island” alumna Johnnie Olivia.
