Mister USA runner-up Daryn Alexander and Mister USA winner Cormac Murphy joined forces for an Instagram Live yesterday. #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos has the recap.

Mister USA is an American beauty pageant, which is held annually, and the winner goes on to represent the United States in the Mister Universe competition. It is a celebration of culture, diversity, beauty, intelligence and empowerment.

Mister USA believes in the power of young leaders to make a difference in the world. It is not solely about outer beauty; it recognizes the inner beauty and intelligence of their contestants.

The Mister USA finals took place on August 31st at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, California.

Alexander and Murphy opened up about the Mister USA competition, their personal lives, some of their favorite moments with the rest of the Top 20 contestants, and the brotherhood and camaraderie that formed. They also took questions from the virtual audience.

Alexander represented the state of Florida, while Murphy repped New York respectively. One thing that was evident was that Alexander and Murphy both had mutual respect for each other, and they are fans of each other.

When asked what they liked the most about each other, Murphy responded, “I am drawn to Daryn’s passion for life. His passion for his family, his passion to help people, and his passion for his relationship. I love that about Daryn. It is very impressive for somebody his age (25).”

“Daryn is very passionate about what he does and what he wants in life. I’ve only figured that out over the last few years,” Murphy acknowledged. “Your drive is very commendable and very obvious.”

“I love how Cormac tries to raise awareness on men’s mental health and how he tries to help others, especially after all the things that Cormac went through,” Alexander said.

“I am in great shape but I am not satisfied,” Alexander noted. “I always want people to understand what it’s like to love health and fitness. For the first three years of lifting, I didn’t like it, but I liked how I felt afterward. I discovered the passion of challenging myself, and I want to give that to other people.”

“I love somebody who can look as amazing as Cormac and be as kind and fun as he is, and still want to help others. This is why I am always going to have respect for Cormac. I love Cormac efforts of wanting to give back,” Alexander added.

Daryn Alexander will be presenting the United States at the upcoming Mr. World competition in Vietnam this November, while Cormac Murphy will be representing the United States at the Mr. Universe pageant this December in Los Angeles.

Towards the end, second runner-up Josef O’Brien, who repped Utah, (and will be representing the United States at “Mr. International”) joined in on the conversation and shared some of his fun experiences with the guys in Los Angeles, California.

The Verdict

Overall, this Instagram Live was insightful, uplifting, engaging, fun, and inspirational. Hopefully, they will do more of these in the future, especially as the Mr. World and Mr. Universe competitions get closer.
