Reality TV star Josh Seiter chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about his mental health advocacy and he opened up about being homeschool.
For Seiter, mental health advocacy has been the locus of his brand ever since he became an influencer on Instagram six years ago. Although he has become known more for who he is dating than his mental health work, it is still something that he is extremely passionate about, especially having battled anxiety and depression since Seiter was an early teen.
His mother homeschooled him and his two older brothers from kindergarten until college. This is something about him that most people aren’t aware of. His parents were strong Christians and believed the public schools were headed in a direction they were not okay with.
Seiter shared that he enjoyed being homeschooled. He was able to gain a “great education” where he could learn at his own pace while also being exposed to unorthodox forms of teaching like classical concerts, sports, and English literature at a very young age. “Homeschooling lets you learn at your own pace, which is great,” Seiter said. “I would compare it to the Montessori schools you see today. Unorthodox but very effective. So much so that I attended law school upon graduation from undergrad college.”
He attended the Chicago-Kent College of Law in downtown Chicago back in 2010, and he graduated with his Juris Doctor (JD) degree in 2013. It was an extremely educational time and taught him what he was and what he was not passionate about. He learned towards the end of law school that life in an office was not something that he was interested in, and thankfully, around the same time he began headlining a popular male revue downtown.
It was then that he realized that a life of entertainment was the direction he wanted to go and he has never looked back since.
He acknowledged that his time dancing has been extremely “rewarding.” He has realized that he prefers to entertain crowds rather than sit in an office staring at a computer screen. He is currently headlining the “America’s Loverboys” National Tour, which is performing to sold-out shows every weekend in cities across America, where tickets to their show are available on Eventbrite.
His plans for the future are to continue using his platform and the media to advocate for mental health awareness and body positivity. He is heading to Utah next week to see his uncle and his husband, and then he will go to Chicago for a weekend of shows.
He revealed that Mother’s Day 2023 for Seiter was spent with his mother at home. “My father recently passed so I try to visit her as much as possible,” Seiter said.
