Actor and model Carlo Mendez chatted with #Powerjournalist Markos Papadatos about his latest endeavors in the contemporary entertainment scene.

He was born in Los Angeles but raised in Miami to Cuban parents, Caridad Corrales and Juan Carlos Mendez. Carlo has been working steadily for several years with recent appearances on shows like “Parks and Recreation” where he played “Eduardo” and the series “90210” on the CW network.

Mendez has also been keeping busy with movies like “Opious,” “Straight on ’til Morning,” “Beautiful Wave,” “Disrupt/Dismantle,” and “Treasure of the Black Jaguar,” among others. He is the younger brother of actress Eva Mendes. His diverse body of work includes comedy, action, drama and horror.

He is now a series regular on “The Bay.” On being a part of this series, he said, “I love it. I get booked to play a lot of cops, it’s awesome. Gregori and Kristos are so much fun. I’m always in uniform so I enjoy it. I like the whole process of acting, everybody is so nice on ‘The Bay.’ Sometimes, you are on set for 12 to 15 hours, and you want to be surrounded by people that are good, humble, and fun.”

He also had kind remarks about executive producer and actress Precious Mayes (who plays the role of Dr. Belinda Kenway). “Precious is another amazing person, everybody on that show is incredible,” he said.

In the last season of “The Bay,” Mendez shared some great scenes opposite Erik Fellows and Alicia Leigh Willis. “Alicia is so nice, humble, and down-to-earth. I love Erik, he is awesome, and he is such an awesome human being,” he said.

On being an actor in the digital age, Mendez said, “I’ve been acting for about 15 years, and I’ve been doing more work, the last few years. The digital age is awesome because it gets our work out faster. I think it just pushes things out faster.”

Regarding his future plans, he said, “I work at night as a bartender, I’ve been doing that for about 13 years, and during the day I audition and I book acting jobs. I just want to be a working actor full-time, so that is my plan. Hopefully, this will be my last year doing a regular job and I just keep booking gigs and be great at it.”

On his definition of the word success, Mendez said, “Success, to me, means being happy and doing what you love no matter what it is. Success is whatever you want it to be and whatever you are at peace with. Success is not about money, being rich, or famous. Success is what you make of it.”

This past November, he was featured in “T Time,” which is hosted by Theresa Farrell. “Theresa was awesome, that was a great interview. I had a lot of fun. Theresa is so much fun, she has great energy,” he said.
