The 2019 Academy Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on February 24, 2019, where “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Black Panther,” “Green Book” and “Roma” all earned multiple awards, with “Green Book” taking home the award for best picture.

Alfonso Cuarón’s poetic, autobiographical “Roma” and the gonzo period dramedy “The Favourite” began the evening with the most nominations. “Roma” took home the award for foreign language film along with prizes for Cuarón’s direction and cinematography. Olivia Colman won the award for lead actress for her portrayal of Queen Anne in “The Favourite.”

Rami Malek won the lead actor award for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody.” The biopic about the iconic lead singer of the British band Queen picked up four Oscars during the night, leading all other films. Mahershala Ali and Regina King won awards in the supporting categories.

Spike Lee won his first Oscar, for adapted screenplay, as part of the writing team behind “BlacKkKlansman,” a film that also garnered a directing nomination for Lee. Best song went to “Shallow” from “A Star is Born.” “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” was named best animated feature film.
