Steven Bochco known as the writer and producer of such shows as Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law and NYPD Blue died Sunday, April 1, 2018 at the age of 74. Bochco suffered from Leukemia. In late 2014 he received a stem cell transplant from an anonymous donor.
Bochco started his career at Universal Studios as a writer on the shows Ironside, Columbo and McMillan and Wife. He later become the story editor on those shows. He later went to MTM studios in 1978 where he began producing. He achieved major critical acclaim in 1981 when he created, wrote and produced Hill Street Blues for NBC. Hill Street blues was nominated for a total of 98 Emmy Awards. In 1986 he moved to 20th Century Fox where he co-created and produced L.A. Law. L.A. Law enjoyed much higher ratings and was a regular award winner. In 1987 Steve Bochco Productions was formed, which went on to produce such shows as Doogie Houser. His last production was Murder In The First.
During his career Bochco was received 10 Emmy Awards and a number of other awards from the Directors Guild, Writers Guild, Peabody Awards and the Edgar Awards. In 1998 he was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame.
Bochco is survived by his wife and 3 children.
